The Co-op program at Marshall Space Flight Center is broad,  and co-ops may be placed into one of many organizations throughout the Center. Below you will find a list of some of the primary organizations that hire co-op students and the main responsibilities of each of these areas.

Engineering Directorate

The Engineering Directorate establishes and directs the Center’s research and development capability for accomplishing engineering functions associated with the design, development, testing, operations, and evaluation of assigned projects. The Engineering Directorate provides integrated quality products and engineering services to NASA, other Government agencies, and the commercial space development community. The Directorate provides requested engineering cognizance, formulates and leads engineering programs, and reviews performance in support of all assigned missions. The Directorate also conducts research and development related to any engineering efforts, design, system integration, material and process engineering, test and evaluation, data analysis, space systems, payload operations, system simulation and required in-depth technical support. The Directorate includes the Chief Engineers Office which is technical authority for projects associated with this office. As part of the independent technical engineering authority at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), the Directorate, along with the Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate, make up the Independent Technical Authority at MSFC.
